Shaping America’s Youth is seeking to identify the multitude of individual efforts that are currently underway to reverse the national health crisis of childhood overweight and inactivity. To do so, organizations across the United States that fund and/or carry out programs that target these issues are being surveyed to determine what is currently being done and how it is being done.

Program Survey I, the first phase of this on-going survey, was conducted between November 2003 and February 2004, with more than 1800 respondents.  These included federal, state, and local government agencies, health and education organizations, professional societies, philanthropies, community organizations, and both profit and nonprofit entities in the private sector.  You may view the complete list of entities that were initially contacted by Shaping America's Youth for possible survey participation.  You may also view the programs that completed the survey and agreed to be listed on this site.

The Survey is ongoing and our goal is to increase the number of participants to be included in the next Summary Report that will be published in 2006. In addition, we may develop surveys targeting specific topics to help identify successful models for addressing childhood obesity. The more information we can gather from programs, the better chance we all will have at developing models to assure success.

The survey development process, and specific questions and responses are included in the SAY Summary Report.   If you direct or fund a related program, we encourage you to register to take the survey and become a participant in the SAY Network.
