Campbell Soup Company Supports Shaping America’s Youth Initiative

Press release — New Orleans, LA, November 3, 2003

New Orleans, LA, November 3, 2003 – Campbell Soup Company announced today it would join Nike and McNeil Nutritionals to become a co-sponsor of Shaping America’s Youth, a national cross-sector initiative to promote childhood and adolescent physical activity and healthy lifestyles. The U.S Surgeon General and the American Academy of Pediatrics have also joined the initiative.

“Campbell Soup Company has always supported initiatives that benefit children in our society. We believe a balanced diet, along with physical activity, is an important component for a child’s health and performance,” said Dr. David Macnair, Senior Vice President for Global R&D/Quality Assurance, Campbell Soup Company. “Campbell’s support of the Shaping America’s Youth initiative is the latest example of our commitment to America’s families and their children.”

Shaping America’s Youth is a national cross-sector initiative focused on promoting childhood and adolescent physical activity and healthy lifestyles. With the support of Nike, McNeil Nutritionals and the Campbell Soup Company and the involvement of the Office of the United States Surgeon General and the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Diabetes Association, American Obesity Association and Kaiser Permanente, Shaping America’s Youth is creating a comprehensive registry of funding sources, ongoing research, and intervention programs to increase physical activity and healthy eating among children and adolescents.
